Unsung Hero

Loyal, Hard Working, Athletic, and Focused are just a few words that describe Jonathan Alvarado.  Jonathan has been in our school district since preschool, and is one of the hardest working students our teachers have ever taught.  Despite some difficult struggles throughout his school career, the work ethic instilled by his parents has translated into growth and progress for Jonathan that has resulted in honor roll status.  He once told a teacher that he works hard in school because his parents want him to have a better life.  They hold Jonathan to a high standard because education is very important to them.  Jonathan works hard so that he doesn't disappoint them or himself.

It is rare to find a young person who has to work so hard in school and yet doesn't become discouraged or ever give up.  He embraces his challenges with a confidence that he will figure it out, and if he doesn’t succeed in something, he accepts the responsibility for his role and then comes back and tries again.

Jonathan is a leader amongst his peers.  He is an excellent athlete who has earned the right to brag, but never does.  He exhibits good sportsmanship, is a positive leader, and many of his peers look up to him.  Jonathan is respectful of adults as well as his peers.

Jonathan has a great sense of humor, enjoys laughing, and appreciates his time at school.  He often refers to his “epic hair” and delights in a chuckle with his teachers and classmates about the effort he puts into keeping his hair perfect!

Our school district is a better place because of Jonathan Alvarado.  His parents should be very proud of the young man they are raising.  He is truly deserving of this award and it is with great pride that his teachers, the Ocean County Superintendent’s Association, and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office present Jonathan Alvarado with the Unsung Hero Award for 2015.
